At Eicma 2019 Ducati shows two new concepts for the Scrambler family. The first is based on the 2018 Desert Sled model. It's called Motard and in fact the configuration looks like a supermotard.
The bike loses the knobby tires, now of 17" size, and gains side covers and handguards. The designer has restyled the saddle, moved up the exhaust, changed the position of the dashboard and some finishes of the carters.
The other concept, called Desert X, appears more evocative. The designer Jérémy Faraud explains: "I was inspired by rally motorbikes, in particular I wanted to celebrate the victories of Edi Orioli with the Cagiva Elefant , [powered by Ducati engine, editor's note] of the early 90s and in my case I decided to do an evolution of the Scrambler style, so I proposed something of very clean, very essential, very technical, something that can be found in product design.These two influences gave me the opportunity to make a retro-technological motorcycle".
In fact the aesthetics is very close to the Dakarian bikes of the late 80s and early 90s, in particular to 1994 Cagiva Elefant Marathon whence the style takes up the double circular headlight, the white color with red strips, the front fairing shape and the double tank. The engine is that of 1100 cc Scrambler, the knobby tires are 21" size the front and 18" the rear. For some years now there is great interest in rally-inspired bikes, so I am confident that we will soon see the commercial version.
